Witchcraft/Majick Basics

Witchcraft/Majick Basics~Lesson 1

I have separated these into "lessons". From time to time, I will post more threads, if there is an interest.

As I have stated many times before, there are many things we must learn before actually practicing. I intend to start from the bottom and work up. I DO require complete participation and dedication from those who choose to follow. If you are thinking "I only want to learn 'black majick'", then do know that majick has no color. To learn and become adept at any one area, we must learn and have knowledge of all aspects. Even if it is not all "our thing". We should at least learn about it. So, the following is the beginning of a course that I had started elsewhere, previously. Also, constant feedback and experience, whether successful or not, would be much appreciated. This way others may learn from the experiences and also may be able to help guide to success, as we can't always see as well as those who are outside ourselves.

I would like to start with saying that Witchcraft is not a religion. You may still practice whatever your religion along with the craft. Secondly, Witchcraft is not Wicca, though we do have many of the same practices, and you should never call a Wiccan a witch unless they call themselves one, as they may take offense. Witchcraft began from the time the first person mixed 2 things together and came up with something that made them feel good, when something was used to make the body heal or feel better, when they realized the power of the sun, the moon, the forces of nature. When they realized how things grew, how they were connected with the universe and all within it. It has been here and been practiced since first life came to be!

Peace & Blessings!

Lesson 1

Respect the universe and all that is in it.
Do as though whilst and harm none. Even if you may not agree with some of the people, they still have their right to live freely. Just because they believe differently doesn't make them wrong.

Everything is connected, so always keep that in mind. If one thing is changed, it could set off many other things to be changed in the process. So, think before acting. If in doubt, don't do it, whatever it may be.
Do not do what is above your level. This could have cataclysmic damages.

To practice and learn the "mysteries" of the universe, you must be willing to be dedicated, study hard, never give up(even if something doesn't work the first few times) and be serious about it. IT IS NOT A TOY OR A GAME.

Majick is NOT slight of hand, it's the real deal people

Remember the 3-fold law. What ever you send out (good or bad) will come back to u x3

You must ALWAYS have your emotions under control. Control them, don't let them control you.

Remember, there are many ways to practice majick, you just must find the way that works for you.

If you have questions...ask. How else will u learn and understand?

First thing I want you to do, make your Book Of Shadows. For now, just a regular unused notebook will work. You'll find in witchcraft(even from the beginning of it) that we witches had to use whatever was at hand to use.

To start your BOS, simply write in it what you learn and the experiences you have. It's always good to write down the date, time, weather, emotional state and also lunar and planetary phases. This way you can look back on it and see when you've had the best successes, what works best for you, and also if written in detail, what mistakes you may have made, ow what made something work right for you.

Also you may want to keep a dream diary. In this you should write down the dreams you have, as they may be linked in some way with your workings/learning process. I keep one beside my bed and write my dreams down just as soon as I awake, so as not to forget the details.

I would like everyone to share, so that all may grow together and help each other as you grow and learn'

Now you can practice to have something to write into your BOS. It is time to begin to develop and hone your concentration and focusing abilities. Start with a candle. sit and meditate a moment first. When ready, light the candle with a match. Concentrate on the flame. Make it do as you wish it to, to jump and dance. It may be easier for you to try to see a light beam or a laser coming from your 3rd eye to the flame. You may feel a pulling from your 3rd eye, but don't worry. Do not get discouraged if it doesn't work the first time, and don't try for over 15mins in the beginning. Since you are essentially retraining your brain how to work, you will have a headache until you become more adept. When you feel like you are weakening, fan out the candle and put it away for next time. write your experience down, even if nothing happened.

Write what you like and dislike about yourself and why.

Do you feel you are moral/ethical? why?

Would you like to change anything? What, why and how?
Below is the dictionary definitions:

ethics-

1. of, pertaining to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong; ethical: moral attitudes.

3. founded on the fundamental principles of right conduct rather than on legalities, enactment, or custom: moral obligations.
4. capable of conforming to the rules of right conduct: a moral being.
5. conforming to the rules of right conduct (opposed to immoral ): a moral man.
6. virtuous in sexual matters; chaste.
7. of, pertaining to, or acting on the mind, feelings, will, or character: moral support.
8. resting upon convincing grounds of probability; virtual: a moral certainty.
–noun
9. the moral teaching or practical lesson contained in a fable, tale, experience, etc.
10. the embodiment or type of something.
11. morals, principles or habits with respect to right or wrong conduct.

Witchcraft/Majick Basics~Lesson 2

Lesson 2

Since we are on the topic of ethics and morals, now would be a good time to bring in two different sets of "laws"(both are very good to follow). If you choose the path of Wicca, you must adhere to the wiccan(c)rede However, if following traditional witchcraft, you don't have to follow any "laws" but those placed upon us by nature(karmic law), but it would be a good idea to follow at least the basic ones. Either way I will also post some "laws" of some within witchcraft, as well.

Wiccan (C)Rede

Bide within the Law you must, in perfect Love and perfect Trust.
Live you must and let to live, fairly take and fairly give.

For tread the Circle thrice about to keep unwelcome spirits out.
To bind the spell well every time, let the spell be said in rhyme.

Light of eye and soft of touch, speak you little, listen much.
Honor the Old Ones in deed and name,
let love and light be our guides again.

Deosil go by the waxing moon, chanting out the joyful tune.
Widdershins go when the moon doth wane,
and the werewolf howls by the dread wolfsbane.

When the Lady's moon is new, kiss the hand to Her times two.
When the moon rides at Her peak then your heart's desire seek.

Heed the North winds mighty gale, lock the door and trim the sail.
When the Wind blows from the East, expect the new and set the feast.

When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss you on the mouth.
When the wind whispers from the West, all hearts will find peace and rest.

Nine woods in the Cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch in the fire goes to represent what the Lady knows.

Oak in the forest towers with might, in the fire it brings the God's
insight. Rowan is a tree of power causing life and magick to flower.

Willows at the waterside stand ready to help us to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify and to draw faerie to your eye.

Hazel-the tree of wisdom and learning adds its strength to the bright fire burning.
White are the flowers of Apple tree that brings us fruits of fertility.

Grapes grow upon the vine giving us both joy and wine.
Fir does mark the evergreen to represent immortality seen.

Elder is the Lady's tree burn it not or cursed you'll be.
Four times the Major Sabbats mark in the light and in the dark.

As the old year starts to wane the new begins, it's now Samhain.
When the time for Imbolc shows watch for flowers through the snows.

When the wheel begins to turn soon the Beltane fires will burn.
As the wheel turns to Lamas night power is brought to magick rite.

Four times the Minor Sabbats fall use

the Sun to mark them all.
When the wheel has turned to Yule light the log the Horned One rules.

In the spring, when night equals day time for Ostara to come our way.
When the Sun has reached it's height time for Oak and Holly to fight.

Harvesting comes to one and all when the Autumn Equinox does fall.
Heed the flower, bush, and tree by the Lady blessed you'll be.

Where the rippling waters go cast a stone, the truth you'll know.
When you have and hold a need, harken not to others greed.

With a fool no season spend or be counted as his friend.
Merry Meet and Merry Part bright the cheeks and warm the heart.

Mind the Three-fold Laws you should three times bad and three times good.
When misfortune is enow wear the star upon your brow.

Be true in love this you must do unless your love is false to you.

These Eight words the Rede fulfill:

"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Wiccan Law by Scott Cunningham

* We are of the Old Ways, among those who walk with the Goddess and God and receive Their love.

* Keep the Sabbats and Esbats to the best of your abilities, for to do otherwise is to lessen your connection with the Goddess and God.

* Harm none. This, the oldest law, is not open to interpretation or change.

* Shed not blood in ritual; the Goddess and God need not blood to be duly worshiped.

* Those of our ways are kind to all creatures, for hurtful thoughts are quiet draining and aren't worth the loss of energy.

* Misery is self-created; so, too, is joy, so create joy and disdain misery and unhappiness. And this is within your power. So harm not.

* Teach only what you know, to the best of your ability, to those students who you choose, but teach not to those who would use your instructions for destruction or control. Also, teach notto boost pride, forever remember: She who teaches out of love shall be enfolded in the arms of the Goddess and God.

* Ever remember that if you would be of our way, keep the law close to your heart, for it is the nature of the Wicca to keep the Law.

* If ever the need arises, any law may be changed or discarded, and new laws written to

* replace them, so long as the new laws don't break the oldest law of all: Harm None.

* Blessings of the Goddess and God on us all.

The Wiccan Law of the Power by Scott Cunningham

* The Power shall not be used to bring harm, to injure or control others. But if the need rises,the Power shall be used to protect your life or the lives of others.

* The Power is used only as need dictates.

* The Power can be used for your own gain, as long as by doing so you harm none.

* It is unwise to accept money for use of the Power, for it quickly controls its taker. Be not as those of other religions.

* Use not the Power for prideful gain, for such cheapens the mysteries of Wicca and magick.

* Ever remember that the Power is the sacred gift of the Goddess and God, and should never be misused or abused.

* And this is the law of the Power.

Also I think it would be important to post The charge of the Goddess, too.

Charge of The Goddess
Now listen to the words of the Great Mother,
Who was of old also called among men
Artemis, Astarte, Athene, Dione, Melusine, Aphrodite,
Cerridwen, Dana, Arianrhod, Isis, Bride
And by many other names.
Whenever ye have need of any thing,
Once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full,
Then shall ye assemble in some secret place,
And adore the spirit of me, who am Queen of all witches.
There shall ye assemble,
Ye who are fain to learn all sorcery,yet have not won its deepest secrets;
To these will I teach things that are as yet unknown.
And ye shall be free from slavery;
And as a sign that ye be really free, ye shall be naked in your rites;
And ye shall dance, sing, feast, make music and love,
All in my praise.
For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit, and mine also is joy on earth;
For my law is love unto all beings.
Keep pure your highest ideal;
Strive ever towards it, let naught stop you or turn you aside;
For mine is the secret door which opens upon the land of youth,
And mine is the cup of wine of life,
And the cauldron of Cerridwen, which is the Holy Grail of immortality.
I am the gracious Goddess,
Who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man.
Upon earth, I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal;
And beyond death, I give peace, and freedom,
And reunion with those who have gone before.
Nor do I demand sacrifice; for behold, I am the Mother of all living,
And my love is poured out upon the earth.
Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess;
She in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven,
whose body encircles the universe.
I,
Who am the beauty of the green earth, and the white moon among the stars,
And the mystery of the waters, and desire of the heart of man.
Call unto thy soul;
Arise and come unto me;
For I am the soul of nature, who gives life to the universe.
From me all things proceed, and unto me all things must return;
And before my face, beloved of Gods and of men,
Let thine innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite.
Let my worship be within the heart that rejoiceth;
For behold, all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.
And therefore let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion,
Honour and humility, mirth and reverence within you.
And thou who thinkest to seek for me,
Know thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not
Unless thou knowest the mystery:
That if that which thou seekest thou findest not within thee,
Thou wilt never find it without thee.
For behold, I have been with thee from the beginning;
And I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

This was written by Doreen Valiente, though many traditional witches use it, too

Principles of Witchcraft Beliefs
wicca, witchcraft, druid, pagan!

We believe that every Witch should welcome sincere cooperation with other traditions of the Craft and other religions. But, in seeking to be inclusive, we do not wish to open ourselves to the destruction of our group culture by those on self-serving power trips, or to philosophies and practices contradictory to our principles. We welcome all who are sincerely interested in our knowledge and beliefs, regardless of race, color, sex, age, national or cultural origins, or sexual preference.

We therefore ask that those who seek to identify with us accept these basic principles:

We believe that all of nature is a Sacred manifestation of the Great Spirit, where all things seek balance and are interconnected. The Goddess and God are a personification of this Great Spirit and are incarnate in the soul of each human;

We believe that because there are so many different spiritual paths, each person must find their own way, searching for the deity in whatever form it may manifest. We respect all such attempts to find spiritual enlightenment; As Witches, we welcome and respect all life-affirming teachings and traditions, and seek to learn from all and to share our learning within our Grove;

We believe that we can see our God and Goddess in all things. The Great Spirit shows itself to us as the female principle of ecstasy, fertility and creation: The Lady (or the Goddess) of Nature and the Earth; and the male principle of procreation: The Lord (or the God) of the Sun and the Hunt (which are only a few of their aspects);

We believe that we should offer love and spiritual dedication to our Divine Earth Goddess and our Celestial God. We insist on a dynamic balance between female and male deities honored and/or invoked at every ceremony and encourage a gender balance within our priest/esshood. We communicate directly with and relate to our God and Goddess and with the Elemental realms on a personal level;

We believe that Magick is a viable tool to bring about change in our lives as well as the things around us, ever remembering the Law of Threefold Return, that whatever is sent forth, returns threefold; therefore we believe in a form of Karmic law which reminds us that our actions affect everything, and retribution comes from the Law of the Gods;

We believe that the Soul is eternal and all the children of the Gods Reincarnate, but the form of the Reincarnation may vary depending upon the spiritual maturity of the individual and whether he or she wishes to follow his or her soul's pathway;

We believe that Nature and Spirit are linked...that without this relationship there is disharmony and imbalance; We believe that it is necessary to have a respect and love for Nature which is divine in her own right and to accept ourselves as a part of Nature and not as her "rulers." We honor the four sacred elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water...and NO ONE can own them or use them for their own personal gain;

We believe that every living and non-living thing are a part of the Great Spirit; the animals, humans, forests, mountains, lakes, fields, rocks, and soil. We believe that all living creatures are the children of the God and the Goddess and like them, we have a spiritual as well as a physical existence;

We believe that the human body is a beautiful work of nature, therefore, sometimes our rituals and festivals are conducted in a naked and natural state showing respect for and identity with the Earth Mother;

We believe that when you are initiated, you are joined spiritually, mentally and physically with our tradition. Prior to initiation you receive a comprehensive knowledge of our Heritage, Lineage, history, philosophy, and religion;

We believe that it is possible for Initiation to give you a true realization of your Oneness with the God and Goddess, the Lord and Lady. This is Enlightenment. This should be your ultimate goal as well as the result of your spiritual evolution;

We believe that you should respect Nature, the Gods, the Old Ones, your parents, and your ancestors in the Religion;

We believe our Rituals are a celebration of religion, recognizing the cycles of the Moon and the turning of the seasons. We thus become attuned to Nature, bringing us closer to the natural rhythm of life;

We believe that our intelligence gives us a unique responsibility toward our environment. We seek to live in harmony with Nature, in ecological balance offering fulfillment to life and consciousness within an evolutionary concept. We consider ecological awareness and activism to be sacred duties;

We believe in a depth of power far greater than is apparent to the average person. Because it is far greater than ordinary, it is sometimes called "supernatural," but we see it as a natural potential existing within all people;

We believe in a Creative Power in the Universe as manifesting through polarity - as masculine and feminine - and that this same creative Power lives in all people, and functions through the interaction of the masculine and feminine. We value neither above the other, knowing each to be supportive of the other. We value sexuality as pleasure, as the symbol and embodiment of Life, and as one of the sources of energies used in Magickal practice and religious worship;

We believe and recognize both the outer worlds and the inner, or psychological worlds - sometimes known as the OtherWorld, Spiritual World, the Collective Unconscious, the Inner Planes, etc. - and we see in the interaction of these two dimensions the basis for paranormal phenomenon and Magickal exercises. We neglect neither dimension for the other, seeing both as necessary for our fulfillment;

We believe that we must honor those who teach, respect those who share their greater knowledge and wisdom, and acknowledge those who have courageously given of themselves in leadership;

We believe that religion, Magick, and wisdom-in-living are united in the way one views the world and lives within it - a world view and a philosophy of life, which we identify as Witchcraft or the Witches Way;

We believe that calling oneself "Witch" does not make one a Witch - but neither does heredity itself, or the collecting of titles, degrees, and initiations. A Witch seeks to control the forces within him/herself that makes life possible in order to live wisely and well, without harm to others, and in harmony with Nature;

We believe that it is the affirmation and fulfillment of life, in a continuation of evolution and development of consciousness, that gives meaning to the Universe we know, and to our personal role within it;

We believe that Christianity, and other religious institutions have claimed to be "the one true right and only way" and have sought to deny freedom to others and to suppress other ways of religious practices and belief. We reject this idea and accept that there is no one true way; that each individual must find the way that is right for them;

We believe that as Witches, we are not threatened by debates on the history of the Craft, the origins of various terms, the legitimacy of various aspects of different traditions. We are concerned with our present, and our future;

We believe that there is no "absolute evil," nor do we worship any entity known as "Satan" or "the Devil" as defined by Christian or other tradition. We do not seek power through the suffering of others, nor do we accept the concept that personal benefits can only be derived by denial to another; and

We believe that we must work within Nature for that which is contributory to our health and well-being.

By Rhuddlwm Gawr

Once again, this is only a basic set of beliefs of some people within traditional witchcraft.

Homework~

Why did I feel it imperative to post all these sets? Well, the fun part is why. I would like you to answer the following:

What does the Wiccan (C)Rede, the Laws, The Laws of Power, Charge of the Goddess and witchcraft beliefs mean to you?

Did you understand them all? Do you agree with them? Disagree? If so, Why? Which are your favorites, and why?

Witchcraft/Majick Basics~Lesson 3

Nature & Getting to Know Her

We have learned bout ourselves and a few basic ethics and morals. We should continue by learning about nature. We will learn how to understand the energies and forces of nature. One way to come to understand hwo mother nature works in our part of the world is already known to us. Though it is a good idea to also keep note of these in our BOS, as it seems to be changing every year.

Most pagan/witchcraft traditions come from europe, where the timings are a bit difference as the weather differs. We must adjust this to where we live and how the weather/climate acts around us. For example, when we celebrate our harvest (Samhain) it is jut becoming spring in Australia, so you see, it would be redundant for them to celebrate harvest in cot and November.

As you know, knowledge is powr and with knowledge comes gret responsibility. We need to get to know how everything around us works, so that we may also learn to harness those same energies and forces. Starting the Goddess (moon) and God (sun). Their cycles greatly affect all that is in nature, including ourselves and behaviors of not only living beings, but even "non-living", such as the great bodies of water. In the days of old, the only way to tell the time and to live life, was done by these very same energies and forces. Day to day life literally depended on them.

The powers of nature nurture us, heal us, claim and reclaim us. It is not only of birth, but destruction to make way for rebirth, too. Natural death isn't the only means of death. Storms, hurricanes and other natural disasters are also way of removing and destructing to make room for new life. As harsh as it may seem, it is natural selection and is needed. We may control these forces by learning how to harness them We may hold them off, keep them from happening or even cause them. We will go into this aspect at a later time while learning Elemental Majick. Keep in mind that nothing new is created without the old being destroyed.

It is also important to know of the paths and practices of The Ancients of our paths, whatever path that may be. It is important to know their names, their stories, their history. How are we to know how we are unless we know where we come from? The Ancients were affected by nature as we are, though they had to discover what those cause and effects were. We can learn much about ourselves and our practices by learning about those of The Ancients.

Homework~
1. Wake up before sunrise and take not of the suns position. Check throughout the day as well and record it in your BOS.

2. Do the same on days of differant weather conditions. Remember what the positioning is and how it affects overall.

3. Note the direction of the wind. Which direction and how hard does it blow through the day or different days and seasons? Does the sun/wind have any correlation?

4. Air pressure also changes with the difference of weather. Note the term "silence before the storm". Why do you think this is? And how does it affect day to day weather changes? Pay special attention to this and see if you can notice the difference from a normal sunny day to one where is it going to storm or snow.

5. What land forms are around you that may affect the weather? Are there any mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans or any other formations? Go and sit in the center of the land formations or at the edge of the water. Brethe in deep through your nose and out slow through your mouth. Do you notice a change in the air from your home? Do you sense the energies being different?

6. Take a walk around your town, neighborhood or area where you live. Make a list of notes of what kind of living plants are there, which are naturally gown htere, which are imported and how well they are doing. The kind of trees, grasses, bushes etc. We'll be coming back to this, so don't loose the list.

7. How often does lightening hit in your area? Are there places where it hits more often? Go to those palces and do the breathing exersize there. Wht do you feel/sense?

8. What are the myths and deities associated with your area? Is there an ancient sacred place for them nearby? If so, vist them. See if it feels differently then somewhere else.

9. Keep a journal of the moon phases for a month. It's rise, setting, positions according to times. Send these to me after one month. Be sure to keep track of anything you may notice as pertaining to weather or behaviors, as well.

Witchcraft/Majick Basics~Lesson 4

The Elements

Earth

The elements are the foundations of all and are interconnected. None are totally independent as each needs the others or some of the others to exist. Like fire needs fuels and oxygen, etc. We know that the elements consists of the following 5 things:

Earth
Air
Fire
Water
Spirit

We will cover these separately. I also suggest you make some little saying to make it easier for you to remember. Here is one i read long ago that i liked:

The earth is my body
The air is my breath
The fire is my will and passion
The water is my blood
The spirit is my consciousness and astral spirit.

Earth is considered to be the physical form, the soil from which all grows, fertility. It is not exactly considered as the actual earth, the planet, but the solid physical form, That in which we can hold in our hands in solid, physical form.

Earth is the base of the Elements. It is the one that we spend the greater deal of our time in. The one in which we work, play, plant, grow, reprodice and nearly everything else in. When we do these things, we are working within the element of earth.

Earth is prosperity, growth, abundance and wealth. Usually, if we knew her well enough, we can find answers to many questions in our lives through her, as she is of wisdom, history and knowledge. She is what Air, fire and water reside on and in. Without her, there could be no other elemtns of life.

Homework~
1. Name at least 3 things that could be used for the element of earth on your altar.

2. Which direction belongs to earth and why do you feel so?

3. What colors belong to earth?

4. For what purposes would you invoke earth?

5. Write what you think a spell should be or look like using the element of earth. Be sure to include any tools or other objects used in it. No cheating! Create one yourself.

6. Write a quarter call for the earth. This is an invitation of blessing help from the earth for protection, guidance or help.

7. Make a representation of what you feel the earth is. Tell me how you made it, out of what, and why you used what you did. A photo would be greatly appreciated, but not necessary. Bless it at midnight (the hours between sunset and sunrise) and ask for it to be your guide for the representation of earth. Then bury it outside, either in your yard, a park or anywhere that you can, in the direction that feels right to you and your living proximity to it.

8. Make a list of correspondences for earth..color, direction, aspects, etc.

9. Write down some questions you would like to ask an Earth Elemental.

Witchcraft/Majick Basics~Lesson 4B~ Basic & Earth Meditation

As you all know, the elements are very much involved in self-guided meditation. We use them to enter, to focus, to calm, energize and activate. Though most of you know how to formally meditate, I will tell of one general way of meditating.

Meditation
1. Go to a place where you feel calm and at peace.

2. Make sure you won't be disturbed.

3. You may wish to do a cleansing bath before meditating. If you do not know how to do this let me know and I will elaborate.

4. You may wish to put on some soothing instrumental or symphonic music.

5. Burning some incense is helpful, but not necessary.

6. Get in a comfortable position. At first, you may not want to lay down, as you may fall asleep. Don't eat a heavy meal before meditating, as you will fall asleep.

7. Now you are ready to begin. Close your eyes and breath in deep through your nose, all the fresh pure air coursing through your body, and out through your mouth, the negative energies and stress leaving your body. You feel your pulse slowing, your breath decreasing and an all over calm.

8. Begin envisioning. Think of someplace where you feel completely at peace and one with the universe. I generally think of floating in the middle of a vast ocean. Feel the air around you, the wind. S,ell the scents, feel all around you. Feel yourself actually there, in every sense. This is what i call "the zone", deep meditation. This is where you can also do all of your majickal meditative workings.

9. When you have completed whatever workings you set to do, then do all envisioning in reverse. Slowly allow self to join with body. Take a few minutes to allow the balance to return. You should feel calm, relaxation and peace. Perhaps an new found energy. When standing, slowly toll your body upwards, stretching. breath in deeply through the nose and out through the mouth 3-4 times until you feel completely balanced. You may now wish to go to sleep or to continue with your daily tasks, depending on the time of your daily schedule.

Earth Meditation

1. Go into nature, preferably as far from civilization as you can. If this is not possible, you may choose a garden or a park, perhaps even your own yard. Find a tree you feel a connection with. You will feel it's energies and feel if it is the right one. Sit beneath it, close enough that you can reach it with your arm outstretched comfortably.

2. Do the meditation as stated above, breathing in the positive energies and life.
As you all know, the elements are very much involved in self-guided meditation. We use them to enter, to focus, to calm, energize and activate. Though most of you know how to formally meditate, I will tell of one general way of meditating.

3. Outstretch your arm and lay your hand on the tree. Ask it's permission to share with you it's knowledge, wisdom and memories. If it gives you it's permission, then you can begin.

4. Focus on the tree in your mind. Feel it's essence, it's energy. Feel it's life force, how it lives, feeds, grows. Become one with the tree, join with it.

5. Share your feelings and thoughts with the tree, and feel the tree's feelings and thoughts, too. Receive it's wisdom, it's life. share your energies with it's energies.Feel and see what the tree has lived. Events and situations it has seen and lived.

6. Drink and feed of the tree as the tree does. Feel it's strength, exchange energies with the tree.

7. When you feel ready, tell the tree good-bye and thank it for sharing with you. Balance, open your eyes and stand.

8. Do be sure you do this when you have a lot of time to spare for it. Remember, a tree is not on the same time-line you are. You may be with it for many hours without even realizing it.

An alternative to this, if you can't get out, is to use either a houseplant (preferably out on a balcony) or a bowl filled with fresh soil. Sit inside your house, if you must. and do the same as above, simply get the sharing from the plant or soil. Actually touch the plant or let your hand lay on the soil.
.
Homework:

After doing one or both of these, write down your results in your BOS, even if there wasn't any. Do it(at least one) again every other day and record the results each time.

My personal preference is to meditate, at the very least, once a day.

As i said, you must write down everything. this way you may learn and get a better grasp on how, which and when things work best for you. and perhaps why some things seem to not work as well as why some work better. this is your journal, your personal majickal diary.

Witchcraft/Majick Basics~Lesson 5

Air

Air is the elements of mind, thought and those things in which we know exist, but can't prove. Air is our breathe, out life. Air is with us form our birth till our death. Air is tht which can chill us through on a cold winter's day or cool us on a hot summer's day. Air is tha which can be destructive with the most powerful forces of nature and also calm us and make us feel at peace. Air rules psychic abilities such as divination, telepathy (all areas) and also prophecy.

Homework

1. Name at least 3 things that could be used for the element of air on your altar.

2. Which direction belongs to air and why do you feel so?

3. What colors belong to air?

4. For what purposes would you invoke air?

5. Write what you think a spell should be or look like using the element of air. Be sure to include any tools or other objects used in it. No cheating! Create one yourself.

6. Write a quarter call for air. This is an invitation of blessing help from the air for protection, guidance or help.

7. Make a representation of what you feel the air is. Tell me how you made it, out of what, and why you used what you did. A photo would be greatly appreciated, but not necessary. Bless it at midnight (the hours between sunset and sunrise) and ask for it to be your guide for the representation of air. Bless it at dawn, ask it to be your guide for the realms of that which is air. when you ahve finished with it, drop it from a high place or hang it so it can swing int he breeze, perhaps from a tree.

8. Make a list of correspondences for air..color, direction, aspects, etc.

9. Write down some questions you would like to ask an Air Elemental.
